Today Paul Russell announced that he is running for the Halifax Regional Municipality councillor seat in a Special Election for Lower Sackville (District 15).

Paul has been involved with the community in Sackville for years. After moving to Sackville, 20 years ago, Paul became an elected member of the Halifax Regional School Board.

More recently he has lead a community group known as the Sackville Community Development Association, which manages the popular set of summer events known as Patriot Days. He is also involved with the February events known as Sackville Snow Days. Through Patriot Days and Sackville Snow Days Paul has managed every parade in Sackville since 2011.

Paul has previously served as a member of HRM’s Planning Advisory Committee and currently serves as a member of both the Sackville Rivers Association and the Lake District Recreation Association. He also had a radio show on CIOE FM where he interviewed different volunteer organizations.

With all of this community service, Paul has been recognized as the “Volunteer Of The Year” multiple times, including being recognized as the Sackville Volunteer Of The Year in 2017. Walter Regan, president of the Sackville Rivers Association, said “We were very happy to nominate Paul for this award. He has shown the type of spirit and dedication that is very helpful for the community.”

The Lower Sackville seat became vacant when former councillor, Steve Craig, won a provincial by-election and became the MLA for the area.

Paul has said “Councillor Craig did a lot for Sackville and, when he won the by-election, I saw that his work needed to be continued and expanded upon. I look forward to working with all of the residents in Sackville to do just that.”

Paul lives in Lower Sackville with his fiancee Donna. They are planning to get married next summer.
